The Victoria Cancer Resource Centre (VCRC) is managed entirely by volunteers. The VCRC provides information and support for the body, mind, and spirit of people living with cancer.

Board of Directors

Jeffrey Hocking, BSc, RPh is a pharmacist and research programmer in Victoria. His pharmacy practice includes several years with the BC Cancer Agency providing direct patient care, and also in other community and clinic settings. He is also part of a pharmacology and neuroscience research group at the University of BC, where he has provided customized experimental design and software development since 1989.

Jackie Horton is a barrister and solicitor, and practices as a sole practitioner in Victoria. Previously, Jackie was trained as a midwife in England and then worked in the United Arab Emirates, where she gained extensive medical experience working in the city of Abu Dhabi. She completed law school while living in Hong Kong, and then finished her requirements for Canadian law practice at the University of Victoria.

Elior Kinarthy, PhD was a professor of psychology and parapsychology in California for 26 years. He has been a board member of the California chapter of the United Nations Association and a member of the San Gabriel Mental Health Advisory Board. In Vancouver, Dr. Kinarthy has lectured on parapsychology at Simon Fraser University and at Langara College. His mission is to help people improve their lives directly through counselling, workshops, and his writings. Dr. Kinarthy was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in August 2002. He now considers himself clinically cancer-free.

Dr. Neil McKinney, BSc, ND is a naturopathic physician in Victoria, with a practice focus on cancer care. He has been a cancer medical researcher, and is a professor of oncology and naturopathic medicine, and author of Naturally There's Hope, a handbook for the naturopathic care of cancer patients.

Susan Paula Smith has worked in a variety of medical facilities. She co-ordinated the associated practitioners at Healthworks in Victoria, and has volunteered and trained with the Centre for Integrated Healing in Vancouver. Susan is a reiki master and volunteers at the British Columbia Cancer Agency. She first discovered the power of Reiki nine years ago when her daughter was recovering from surgery for cancer.

Owen Rose

Owen Rose was the owner of Angels of Avalon (Market Square), where amongst other things, he helped many people on their own journey through illness, in his healing room.
Owen hosted the spiritual cinema, in Victoria, bringing in films such as the Indigo movies and Conversations with God.
He was also a board member of the Victoria Cancer Resource Centre until he died from pancreatic cancer in 2007.
